January 3, 2005

Kole had a long weekend off. He did not go to the hospital Sat., Sun., or Mon. On Saturday, Kole just wanted to hang around the Ronald McDonald House and play with his toys. His only interest that day was to go to David, Monica, and Ansley's house for a taco New Year's Eve party. Earlier in the day Steve went to the University of Memphis basketball practice to get the team to sign a couple of basketballs. Nancy, Steve's Mom, sought out the coaches several days earlier when we ate breakfast with the team at the same restaurant. They were very friendly and more than happy to sign a ball and they said that if they won Kole could come down into the dressing room after the game. Steve called the assistant coach to see when the best time was for a ball signing and he suggested that Steve and possibly Kole come to the Sat. afternoon practice. Steve went over and talked to the coaches and then the head coach, John Calipari, asked Steve to explain to the team Kole's situation. The staff's generosity continued by giving Kole a couple of team T-shirts and a pair of practice shorts. The T-shirts were a good fit but the shorts were slightly large and looked more like a pair of pants. Nonetheless, Kole wanted to wear the new outfit to the New Year's Eve gathering. On Saturday morning we had another answered prayer when Kole woke up and Steve and Janni immediately noticed that the swelling behind his head had greatly subsided. If the swelling did not go down then they would first try draining it and if that did not work they would have to put a shunt in his head to drain the excess fluid.

The grandparents had an early morning awakening -- 3 a.m. -- after some partier pulled the fire alarm at our hotel. We were on the 8th floor and all four of us exited the hotel via the stairs. As you can expect there were a lot of unhappy hotel guests.

On Sunday we all attended the early church service. The eight of us ate a quick lunch after church at a local Burger King. There Kole climbed into the Van by himself for the first time. His walking and the use of his right hand continues to improve for which we all are very thankful and give God the credit. The grandparents departed and started the long drive back to Ohio. The trip took, with all the stops, approximately 11 hours.

Monday Steve, Janni, Kole, and Jaelle attended the University of Memphis/Texas U. game. Unfortunately for Memphis, they lost the game. Nonetheless Kole had a good time at the game. Tuesday will be a big day at the hospital for Kole for it will be a full day -- 8 to 5. He is scheduled for speech therapy, neurological testing, occupational therapy, and of course, his one and half hours of radiation treatment.
We again wish to thank all of you for your support -- prayers, gifts, comments, cards, etc. Please keep kole in your daily prayers -- keep him safe from the harmful effects of radiation, continued restoration of all his abilities, for Kole's inner peace, and for all their safe keeping. Kole has had a real interest in his medical care. He has a doll that he likes to work on. He bandages it up and likes to provide IV injections. The hospital provides him the supplies.

Phil

Kole and family,
Thanks for keeping us updated on Kole's situation, and letting us all know how we can best pray for him! I pray for the doctors' wisdom and discernment concerning Kole's treatment. I pray that all goes well with Kole's treatments and that he continues to make great strides. I am so thankful that you have the Ronald McDonald house, too! You guys are great, keep trusting because God is right there with you! Lots of love and God's blessings to you all!

Hi Keller family,

I have been thinking about all of you and what you are dealing with, and I am amazed at the positive outlook you have on the situation. I have kids the same age as yours and I simply cannot imagine what it is like for you. My son, who is the same age as Kole, saw his picture on the website as I was reading the update tonight and asked who he was. I told him that he was a little boy his age who was very sick. He looked at me very concerned, so I said, we should ask God to make him better. So, that is exactly what we did.

Thank you for taking the time to post updates here so we can follow your progress and we'll keep the prayers coming.

Hope and Encouragement,
Brenda, Carver, CJ and Lauren Williams

Kellers,

We are so glad to hear that Kole's swelling is going down and he is up and about. Your family is such a role model for others who face adversity in their own lives. We check the website every day for updates and Kole seems to be doing very well. We hope that 2006 will bring great things to your family and we pray for Kole's speedy recovery and a safe trip home in February.

Kellers,
It is so great to hear of Kole's progress. We want you to know how truly happy we are that things seem to be going better.
Also, it is important that you know what an inspiration your entire family has been to the rest of us. Your unyielding faith and trust in God is amazing. Without meaning to, you are teaching the rest of us lessons every day. We only hope that we could conduct ourselves as you have in this unbelievable situation.
Finally, know that we keep you in our thoughts and prayers daily and we look forward to Kole's speedy recovery and return to Clyde.
God Bless,
Kyle, Melanie, Mikayla and Dillon Overmyer

Just wanted to leave a note and let you know, as so many have, that Kole and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Kole's preschool family misses him and looks forward to each update on his progress. We serve a BIG God--and your testimony is truly a blessing. If there is anything at all that we can do, please let us know.

Hi,
I am a friend of Joel and Jody Conley. I just wanted to let you know that I am praying for you and Kole. We never really know how God is working but the one sure thing is He wants us to trust Him (the very hardest thing to do most of the time). May we trust Him no matter the situation.

John Walker

Kole and Family,
Hi! I went to high school with Janni and I just wanted to let you know that you are in our thoughts and prayers every day. I'm so glad that Kole had such a nice weekend and had fun at the Memphis game! We have a nephew who is one and has spent a lot of time in a childrens hospital in Columbus, Ohio because of a condition called Hydrocephalis. The Ronald McDonald House has been such a wonderful help for our family and I'm glad it is useful to you all also. We will continue to pray for Kole's healing and this website is just a wonderful way to keep us updated and we thank you for that!! Best wishes in 2006!
