Everyone I am sure knows what it is like to have a rather dull evening, when out of the blue comes a phone call from a loved one, whose voice just makes you feel warm and special. Here it is, my baby sister, here to give cheer, unconditional love, and loyalty to her "big" sister. She has brought this encouragement to my life since the day of her birth. I know it should be my turn to encourage, but Janni is such a sunshine lady that it is hard to imagine cheering up such a bright spirit who believes in the good Lord and brings out the best in people.

I received that phone call, from my dear sister Janni, just this evening. It sounded like a party was going on. Janni was chuckling on the phone and two precious little voices were chattering in the background one being Kole and the other Jaelle. I got the privilege of talking to Jaelle who said "Hi, Aunt 'something or other' followed by some heavy breathing. Her little voice full of spark and joy. Then it was Kole's turn. His voice was strong and clear as he said "hi" to me. I could see Kole's sparkling smile in the tone of his voice. His conversation was precious and warm, as he has a way of embracing his loved ones, much like his mom (and of course dad).

There is some happy news, not so much related to the usual medical reporting, but happy news all the same. Janni has been praying that Kole could get into this new study which desires to help children use parts of their brain which may not be sparked for one reason or another. I have heard it said we do not use all of our "brain capacity". Kole had to qualify and they only accepted a certain percentage of patients to enroll in this 2-step instructional program. There is regular classroom instruction and a bonus computer instructional program. Kole gets to participate in both aspects of the study which is a real privilege. It is an answer to prayer. You may wonder why this is needed. Here is why: Radiation takes a toll on a young developing brain and this program could help reverse some of those effects.

Some more happy news concerns the fluid on the brain. Kole will not need a shunt because the swelling has diminished almost completely. We thank the good Lord for answered prayer. Janni says they are truly being provided for in every way possible. Also, Kole's ability to walk is improving by great "leaps". Hopefully, soon he will be truly leaping all over tarnation. I am sure his parents will not complain even when it is "bedtime".

My mind cannot help but go to the song based on Acts 3:1-10. Peter and John had come to the temple (in Jerusalem) and entered at the Gate Beautiful. There was a sick/crippled man collecting money from those who passed by. The song goes (Peter says) "silver and gold have I none. But what I have I give thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he went walking and LEAPING and praising God....".

We thank you for your prayers more than anything. We are seeing them answered. I hope you are encouraged to keep praying in Jesus' name.

Kole needs prayer to get in enough meals to keep up his nourishment. It is difficult for him, for he cannot eat 5 mornings a week (sometimes into the afternoon) before he goes under to receive his radiation. Then he is not hungry after he is through with his treatment. Janni says she has to get calories into him however she can. He is on a high fat, pour on the butter and sauces diet. Fruits and vegetables are to be eaten with dips and sauces and not by themselves. Can you imagine?

Also, a little side note. The University of Memphis basketball team came to St. Jude looking for Kole. Janni said being an Ohio fan they took it in stride. I guess many at the hospital were fans and kept asking Janni how it is she got their attention. Leave it to the Kellers, basketball seems to find them wherever they go. Kole, however was busy at the hospital and missed the visit. Not to worry, they left more tickets to see Memphis play.

God is good, all the time.
All the time, God is good.

My chin shivered and tears well up in joy for all the love and encouragement displayed on this site. We continue to pray faithfully for Kole's healing and all the necessary strengths for each family member.

I would like to suggest to everyone with a cell phone or pocket scheduler to do the following:

- set your cell phone alarm/schedule to pray for Kole every day at noon. List Kole's name in prayer even if only in quick silent prayer.

I said a prayer (Anonymous)
I said a pryer for you today....
and god must have heard.

I felt the answer in my heart....
although he spoke no word.

I didn't ask for wealth or fame ....
I knew you wouldn't mind.

I asked him to send treasures....
of a far more lasting kind.

I asked that he'd be near you....
at the start of each new day.

To grant you health and blessings....
and friends to share your way.

I asked for happiness for you....
in all things great and small.

But it was for his loving care....
I prayed the most of all.

Dear Kole, Steve & Janni,

You are in our thoughts and prayers. You have to believe in the power of God and he will guide you through this hard time. My younger brother was diagnosed with brain cancer in April - he's from Castalia (Matt Pooch). Through his treatments we all had the same prayer to St. Peregrine, "O great Peregrine,
You who bore in your own cancerous disease, and were favored with the vision of Jesus Christ coming down from His cross to heal your afflication; Ask of God and Our Lady the cure of these sick people whom we entrust to you. Aided by your intercessions, we praise God and give thanks for his kindness and mercy." Amen.
God is with you every step of the way. Remember to stay strong, stay positive, believe in the Lord and try to smile.

Hi Steve, Kole, Janni, and Jaelle:

I just returned home from another Flier victory vs. St. Mary's! (Both JV and Varsity won.) You are all missed, but it was great to "see" you with the aid of a little technology at the supper before the game. You are all in my prayers daily and are missed at CHS.

coach, just a note for you, the Lord has chosen you to be the guardian of this precious boy here on earth, I just left your gym, i was scouting St. Mary's, i spoke with coach tea and partook in a chili supper, i viewed a video of your beautiful family and felt compelled to encourage you to stay strong and keep believing. the Lord tells us he will not give us mare than we can bear, i know from experience it is so very hard, and we ask Him why? we may not know in this lifetime but, we know that He is Lord and all is in His time and reason. i felt such a love in that gym for your family, it reminded me of my gym 14 years ago in columbiana, oh. Your son is a blessing to more than your family, he is touching many lives in many ways for Him. My family and the Mansfield St. Peter's family will be keeping yours in our prayers. before our game this saturday i will ask our fans and Kidron Central Christian fans to keep your family in their prayers. coach if there is anything i can ever do for you do not hesitate to ask. even though we have never met, my family's love and prayers go with yours.

Janni and family,

You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Our family learned this past year just how powerful the prayers of others can be. I hope your family will receive the blessings we received for my husband.

May all the prayers and good wishes being sent your way give you the strength to face each day as it breaks. Having listened to and having watched Steve talk with my second graders, I know he has the energy to be the strong one when needed. Janni, watching your enthusiasm at grade level meetings, I know you can be the strong one when needed. Rely on each other to make it through each day.

I will continue to send up prayers for all of you.

Hello Memphis from Indianapolis! Amiah and I are praying for you daily and sending you positive energy. I even put that adorable picture of Kole as my screen saver. It inspires me. If such a young boy can experience this huge situation and still be the beaming light he always was, then there is nothing that I myself can not endure. I am inspired by your family. I think your famliy is a testimony of how GREAT God's love and work truely is.
Love you,
Casey and Amiah Sprunger
